Claude Wei Zhang is a scenic and lighting designer and visual artist from Evanston, IL. With a passion for both theater and fine arts, Claude is interested in immersive storytelling through synthesizing multiple mediums.

As a scenic and lighting designer, Claude collaborates with teams of creatives to bring narratives to life. Whether through plays, musicals, or dance, Claude animates stories through detailed scenic pieces and dynamic lighting. They are excited by experimental and site-specific work and immersing audiences in compelling experiences.

In the realm of visual arts, Claude explores interactive storytelling through a variety of mediums such as painting, printmaking, and installation art. Combining their skills across multiple mediums, Claude showcases central themes in their life—third culture background, gender identity, and youth—in an engaging, accessible, and authentic approach that audiences can relate to.

With a versatile set of skills, Claude is on a mission to create immersive experiences that convey personal stories which resonate with audiences.

Currently, Claude is a freshman studying at Northwestern University, double majoring in Theatre and Art Theory & Practice. They are a Technical Director for Sit & Spin Productions, Northwestern’s experimental student theater company.
